Lake Berryessa
Napa Valley, CALocated on a 95-acre parcel along the northwestern shore of Lake Berryessa, this 2,300-square-foot weekend home is situated atop one of a series of meadows surrounded by oak, pine and manzanita-covered hills. We worked with the architect to build an off-the-grid retreat that takes advantage of sweeping 360-degree views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Up a half-mile driveway from Knoxville Road running along the lakeshore, the home operates independently from municipal utilities.
A spring on the property provides fresh water, while photovoltaic solar panels generate electricity. We installed on-demand hot water and in-floor radiant heating to supplement the home’s passive cooling system.

Four building blocks wrap around a central rhombus-shaped courtyard—a glass-walled diamond at the heart of the home. This layout opens each room to different panoramic views. The experience shifts dramatically as you move through the space.
The home includes living area, dining and kitchen areas, a master bedroom, a kid’s bedroom, and yoga room. A freestanding garage completes the property, positioning this working structure to preserve sightlines and outdoor floor across the site.
